COLUMBUS, Ohio Senior forward Corey Elkins and freshman defenseman Matt Bartkowski have been named CCHA Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday. The duo helped the Buckeyes to a 1-0-1 weekend at Ferris State, with a 6-2 victory Friday and a 2-2 tie (shootout win) Saturday, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to 12.

Elkins, from West Bloomfield, Mich., had three points, with two goals and an assist, and was +4 in the series with Ferris State. In the Buckeyes’ 6-2 win Friday he tied the game at 2 with a power-play goal in the first period and added an assist in the second period to earn second star of the game honors. Saturday he was the first star and opened the scoring in the first period with his 10th goal of the season. He was +2 in each game. Elkins leads the Buckeyes with 26 points, including 16 assists, and is +18 on the year, all career highs.

Pittsburgh, Pa., native Bartkowski also was named CCHA Rookie of the Week Oct. 27. Against Ferris State he had a goal and an assist and a +1 mark, along with two blocked shots. He had an assist and was +1 in the victory Friday. Saturday he scored a goal to put the Buckeyes ahead in the second period and had a team season-high nine shots on goal. This season Bartkowski has three goals, eight assists and 11 points, with a +11 mark. 

The Buckeyes have picked up nine league player of the week accolades this season. In addition to Bartkowski’s two honors, forward Zac Dalpe has two rookie of the week accolades, Corey Toy has been named defenseman of the week and Dustin Carlson is a two-time goalie of the week.

The No. 14-ranked Buckeyes, 16-6-2 on the year and 9-5-2-2 in the CCHA, return to Columbus to host Western Michigan this weekend. The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Value City Arena.
