Ohio State has four golfers place in the Top 25, next hosts quad match April 4 at Scarlet Course

COLUMBUS, Ohio Sophomore Bo Hoag recorded his third Top 10 finish in as many tournaments when he tied for fourth at the FAU Spring Break Championship Sunday in Delray Beach, Fla. The Ohio State men’s golf team placed fifth out of 14 teams with a 54-hole total of 873 (+21) after concluding the event with a round of 294 on the par 71, 6,722-yard Gleneagles Country Club.

Big Ten Conference teams took five of the Top 6 places in the event. Illinois led throughout the event and won with a score of 847 the only team to finish under par. Michigan was second (861), Northwestern was fourth (871) and Wisconsin was sixth (878). Eastern Michigan was the only non-league team near the top of the leaderboard in third (864).

Hoag carded his second-consecutive round of 72 for a total score of 1-under 212. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native was among the seven golfers who finished under par out of the field of 84. He has five Top 10 finishes this season in seven stroke-play events.

Two Buckeyes tied for 14th with scores of 218 in senior Vaughn Snyder and junior Brad Wright, who was competing as an individual. After opening with a 66, Snyder closed with two rounds of 76. He was 1-over until the last three holes when he double-bogeyed two of them. Wright had three birdies in his first seven holes Sunday, but stumbled on the 18th with a double-bogey and finished with a round of 72.

Sophomore Brad Smith came back from a second-round score of 75 to conclude with an even-par 71.  The native of Peru, Ind., had a steady round with two birdies and two bogeys to move up to a tie for 25th with a total of 220.

Rounding out the Buckeyes was sophomore Michael Cress and junior Patrick Simard. Cress tied for 45th at 224 with a final round of 76, while Simard had a 75 en route to a sum of 229 to tie for 67th.

Along with Wright, senior Dan Rush and Tanner Murphy also played as individuals. Rush tied for 45th (224) and Murphy tied for 63rd (228) with final rounds of 75 and 77, respectively.

Up next, Ohio State returns to Columbus to host the first of back-to-back events at the Scarlet Course. The Buckeyes welcome in-state opponents Cleveland State, Dayton and Youngstown State for a 36-hole quad match April 4, before hosting the 40th Annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate April 11-12.
