COLUMBUS, OHIO – Middle hitter Rene Esteves (Sr., San Juan, Puerto Rico/San Jose’ HS) and setter Angel Aja (Sr., Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista HS) have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Team. Esteves, named to the first team, was a second team selection in 1998 and 1999. He hit .515 this season averaging 3.52 kills per game and 1.46 blocks per game this season. In Ohio State career statistics, he ranks third in kills (1,304) and blocks per game (1.50) and second in hitting percentage (.470), solo blocks (91), assist blocks (405) and total blocks (496). Esteves was a first team All-Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association selection this season.

Aja, named to the second team, was a first team selection in 1998. He averaged 18.71 assists, 1.51 digs and .74 blocks per game. Aja helped Ohio State win its third-consecutive MIVA Championship and was named the MIVA Player of the Year. He ranks second in Ohio State career assists (6,524) and only needs five assists to become OSU’s all-time leader. Aja is the OSU career leader in assists per game (18.38) and ranks fifth in ace serves (65) and sixth in hitting percentage (.364).

Ohio State, ranked fourth nationally in the USA TODAY/AVCA Coaches Poll, is 22-3 overall and finished 13-1 in the MIVA winning its third-consecutive championship. The Buckeyes face Ball State (16-14) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. (or 30 minutes after the completion of the first semifinal) in the MIVA Tournament Semifinals. Indiana-Purdue (20-7) and Lewis (21-10) play in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m. The semifinal winners meet at 7 p.m. Saturday for the MIVA Tournament Championship and the winner advances to the NCAA Championship Semifinals May 4 at Ft. Wayne, Ind.
