COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$Ohio State, behind a combined 25 kills by Pieter Olree (Sr., Reading, Pa./Exeter H.S.) and Chris Fash (Sr., Orland Park, Ill./Lockport Township H.S.), won a 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-19) victory over Western Ontario Friday night in St. John Arena. The exhibition match does not count for either team. Olree had a match-high 13 kills (hitting .318) with Fash adding 12 kills (hitting .318). Mustang Luke Schram (Jr., London, Ont.) had a team-high 11 kills with Jeff Ranson (Sr., Guelph, Ont.) adding 10.%^$
%^$An OSU hitting error gave Western Ontario a 1-0 lead in game one. A Mustang service error tied the game at one and a Greg Lehman (Sr., Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut H.S.) kill put the Buckeyes ahead for good winning 30-23. Western Ontario outhit OSU .542 to .469 but with a 20-16 advantage in kills the Buckeyes came out on top.%^$
%^$Ohio State opened game two with six consecutive points and held the lead for a 30-23 win. The Buckeyes outhit the Mustangs .314 to .211 and had a 19-9 advantage in kills for the game. OSU also picked up points on two aces and three team blocks.%^$
%^$A Mustang kill by Schram put Western Ontario in the lead, 1-0, in game three. The Buckeyes regained the lead, scoring seven consecutive points, holding the lead for a 30-19 win. The Buckeyes hit .316 for the game while Western Ontario hit -.040. Each team recorded 10 kills, but 11 Mustang hitting errors, five coming from Ohio State blocks limited their offense. The Buckeyes also outscored Western Ontario five to one in ace serves.%^$
%^$Ohio State hit .372 for the match to .235 for Western Ontario. The Buckeyes had a 49-35 advantage in kills and a nine to one margin in ace serves. Each squad had eight team blocks while the Mustangs had a 15-10 advantage in digs. The Buckeye block came from Todd Hill (Sr., Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto H.S.) with a match high eight assists and six from Mark Peckham (Fr., London, Ontario/Oakridge Secondary H.S.). Peckham added 43 assists, three kills and three digs.%^$
