COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association has announced its All-Conference selections for the 2005 season. By a vote of the conference coaches, Loyola’s Scott Green (OH, Sr., Athol Springs, N.Y.) has been named the MIVA Player of the Year and Rambler coach Shane Davis has been honored as the MIVA Coach of the Year. Ohio State’s Daniel Mathews (S, Fr., Shorewood, Wis.) was named the MIVA Freshman of the Year.

Green hit .311 in league play ranking 16th, averaged 4.88 points (4th), 4.12 kills (5th), 2.12 digs (8th) and averaged .47 aces per game (2nd) in leading the Ramblers to the MIVA regular season championship. Davis, in his second year with Loyola (25-2 overall, 15-1, 1st place), guided the Ramblers to its second league championship in the history of the program. Mathews averaged 13.20 assists per game in league play to rank second. He averaged .36 aces (4th), .96 blocks (12) and 1.73 digs (17th) in conference play.

Regular season champion Loyola had four student-athletes named to the MIVA first team All-Conference team. Along with Player of the Year Green, the Ramblers’ James Grunst (MH, So., Milwaukee, Wis.), Chris Kozlarek (OPP, Jr., Evergreen Park, Ill.) and Krystian Krzyzak (L, Sr., Mt. Prospect, Ill.) were named to the first team. Ohio State and IPFW had two players each named to the first team. Layne Dreven (MH, Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Mark Greaves (OH, Jr., Fenton, Mo.) picked up first team honors for the Buckeyes while Serdar Sikca (MH, Jr., Istanbul, Turkey) and Matt Zbyszewski (OH, Sr., Toronto, Ontario) were first team selections for IPFW. Ball State’s Evan Berg (OA, Sr., Bristol, Wis.) and Jeff Soler (OH, Sr., Delray Beach, Fla.) of Lewis complete the 10-player first team.

Lewis had three players named to the MIVA second team All-Conference squad. They include J.J. Castellano (L, Jr., Toa Baja, Puerto Rico), Jared Dayton (MB/OH, So., Laguna Hills, Calif.) and Enrique Escalante (MB, Jr., Bayamon, Puerto Rico). Mercyhurst and Ohio State had two players each named to the second team. Dave Schmidl (OPP, Sr., Webster, N.Y.) and Austin Siewert (MB, Sr., York, Pa.) were second team selections for Mercyhurst while Andy Cole (OH, Jr., Glendale, Wis.) and Mathews made the team for Ohio State. Ball State’s Nick Meyer (OA, So., Cincinnati, Ohio), Findlay’s C.J. Macias (OH, Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Loyola’s Brian Guntli (S, So., St. Louis, Mo.) complete the second team.
