COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 28 Ohio State men’s tennis team fell to No. 2 Illinois, 5-2, Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill. With the loss, the Buckeyes dropped to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Illini improved to 14-2 overall, 4-0 in the conference.

Illinois took a 1-0 lead after the squad won the lone doubles point. The OSU duo of juniors Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Ross Wilson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales), ranked No. 1 in the ITA Division I poll, defeated the No. 9 doubles pair in the country at the No. 1 position. Green and Wilson topped Illini Ryler Deheart and GD Jones, 8-3, to win the only doubles match for the Buckeyes.

In singles action, Buckeyes Devin Mullings (So., Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory) and Wilson put Ohio State’s two points on the board. Mullings, ranked No. 72 in the ITA Division I singles poll, upset 24th-ranked Kevin Anderson, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, at the No. 3 spot, while Wilson captured his second win on the day with a 6-4, 6-3 performance over Monte Tucker.

Sophomore Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) gave a tough fight on the No. 1 court for the Buckeyes. He fell in three sets, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-5, to No. 27 Jones.

Ohio State returns to action April 9-10 as the squad plays host to Indiana and Penn State. Both matches are slated for a noon start at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus. In the case of inclement weather, the Buckeyes play indoors at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus.
