COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s tennis team entered its third competition of the season this weekend, sending three individuals to the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Ky. The tournament was an individual-based tournament with no team scoring. Jon Scale (Fr., Actworth, Ga.) led the Buckeyes, posting a 6-3, 6-4 win in Flight A singles over Austin Peay’s Dominic Hall in the second round. He advanced to the second round after receiving a first-round bye. Scale fell in the third round to fourth-seeded Richard Magney of Memphis, 6-2, 6-2.
Paul Mazak (So., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) competed in Flight B singles, notching a 6-2, 7-6 win in the first round over Xavier’s Kyle Bates. Mazak dropped his second-round match to Toledo’s Dipesh Rao, 6-4, 6-2. Rao went on to win the Flight B singles title. Mazak teamed with Scale in Flight A doubles, and after a first-round bye, the duo fell 9-8 to Wright State’s Chad Derry and Joey Turner.
Derek DeFalco (Jr., Maumee, Ohio) earned the No. 3 seed in Flight A singles, but lost in the second round to Toledo’s Jorge Morales, 7-5, 6-4, after receiving a first-round bye. DeFalco also teamed with Xavier’s Christian Lovelace in Flight B doubles, dropping a second-round contest to Indianapolis’ Curt Baumgartner and David Litman, 8-5.
Ohio State returns to action Oct. 22, competing in the Rocket Invitational in Toledo, Ohio.
