COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team will play host to Kenyon in a co-ed meet at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center, Friday at 6 p.m.

The schedule of events for the Kenyon Meet are as follows:

200 Medley Relay
1000 Freestyle
200 Freestyle
50 Freestyle
200 Individual Medley
Five Minute Break
100 Butterfly
100 Freestyle
100 Backstroke
500 Freestyle

In a record setting weekend, the Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team defeated Ball State and Indiana, respectively.

Saturday, in a 149.5-93.5 win over Indiana, Brian Malich (Sr., Mason, Ohio/El Dorado Calif.) led off the 400 freestyle relay with a time of :44.15, setting a Peppe Pool record in the 50 freestyle. The previous night, in a 149-89 win over Ball State, the 200 freestyle relay team of Brandon Deters (So., GrandHaven, Mich./Grand Haven), Malich, Travis Carter (Jr., Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley) and Nick Cheney (Jr., Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) broke the Peppe pool record with a time of 1:21.24.

For the second time this season and third time of his career, Ohio State men’s swimmer Brian Malich (Sr., Mason, Ohio/El Dorado (Calif.)) was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.

In addition to his record-setting performance in the first leg of the 400 freestyle in the win over Indiana, Malich was a double-winner in the 100 freestyle (:44.92) and the 200 freestyle (1:38.02). The previous night, in the win over Ball State, Malich won the 50 freestyle.

Malich previously earned the honor for the week of Nov.28 for his efforts Nov. 21 at Cleveland State, when he posted individual wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively. Malich was also a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team in a win over Cleveland State. On Feb. 8, 2000 Malich earned the award for the first time.

Kenyon, coached by Jim Steen, comes to Columbus with a a record of 3-3 in dual meets. The Lords have taken first at the Miami (Ohio) Universtiy Invitational (1 0f 11) and the NCAC the NCAC Invitational (1 of 8).

In their final home meet of the 1999-2000 season, OSU defeated Kenyon, 251-93 in a tri-meet in which the Buckeyes also topped Northwestern, 252.5-98.5. Nick Rees posted an then-OSU season best in the 100 butterfly (:49.88). Brian Malich earned a then-season-and- personal-best in the 50 freestyle with a time of :20.54

OSU will compete in a two-day Big Ten tri-meet with host Northwestern and Iowa, beginning next Friday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. (central) in Evanston, Ill. The meet will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
