COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team defeated Louisville 166-69 and West Virginia 130-107 on Friday at home, opening the season with two wins.

Freshman Nate King (Fr., Youngstown, Ohio/Warren Harding) earned his first win for the Buckeyes, taking the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:55.55. Marty Tomes (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) won the 200-yard butterfly in a closely timed race, pushing forward and narrowly defeating West Virginia’s Pedro Pinto.

Ryan Sciortino (Jr., Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland) won the 1000-yard freestyle and Tommy Seay (Jr., Buffalo, N.Y./McKinley) won the 100-yard freestyle, with Ohio State taking the 400-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Rob Kauscher (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) also placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Taking both the 1- and 3-meter dives, Mitch Richeson (Jr., Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) finished the night strong with 310.65 points in the 1-meter dive and 336.70 points in the 3-meter dive.

“I was really impressed by the unity and team spirit the student-athletes had at the meet,” head swimming coach Bill Wadley said. “They really pulled for each other and kept each other going. We have a certain way to go, but did a great job at the meet.”

West Virginia defeated Louisville 181-59.

The Buckeyes return to action at the Purdue Invitational Nov. 21-23 in West Lafayette, Ind.
