COLUMBUS, Ohio The 2009 Ohio State men’s lacrosse schedule, announced by Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, Thursday, features six home games and is highlighted by the Buckeyes’ game vs. Notre Dame in Ohio Stadium April 25.

“We are very excited about the 2009 spring schedule,” Myers said. “We know we will face new challenges with every game we play. The GWLL is coming off a year where three teams appeared in the NCAA tournament and we think league play will be even more competitive in 2009. The out-of-conference games combined with our league schedule will provide us an opportunity to play as tough a schedule as we have had here at Ohio State.”

The Buckeyes, who return seven starters from the 2008 NCAA quarterfinalist squad, kick off the season in Columbus, hosting Detroit Mercy Feb. 7. After a trip to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy, Ohio State returns for back-to-back home games vs. Bucknell Feb. 21 and Fairfield Feb. 28. The Buckeyes then travel east for a game against Penn State March 7. Ohio State will play a home game under the lights with Robert Morris March 13 before it hits the road for games at UMBC March 21 and Colgate March 24.

Ohio State opens Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) action in Columbus March 28 against Quinnipiac before playing four-consecutive games away from home. The Buckeyes first travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on conference foe Bellarmine April 4. On April 11, the Buckeyes will face North Carolina in a neutral site game at Calvert Hall College in Baltimore. League games in Colorado at Air Force April 17 and Denver April 19 follow.

The regular season concludes with a game in Ohio Stadium against Notre Dame April 25 prior to the football team’s spring game. In April 2008, Ohio State downed Denver (20-13) in front of an NCAA regular-season and on-campus record crowd of 29,601 prior to the football spring game in Ohio Stadium.

The Top 4 teams from the regular-season standings will qualify for the GWLL tournament in Birmingham Mich., with the tourney winner receiving the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Conference semifinal games will be May 1, with the championship May 3.
