COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team topped Wagner, 19-1, Friday in a neutral-site game on the Robert Morris campus in Pittsburgh. The Buckeyes are 2-1 on the year, while the game was the season opener for Wagner.
The Buckeyes return home to host Harvard at noon Sunday at North Turf Field in Columbus.
The Buckeyes jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 13-1 at halftime. Ohio State added three goals in both the third and fourth quarters for the 19-1 final.
Sophomore Joel Dalgarno (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Western Reserve (Ohio) had a game-high three assists and four points. Jeff Ryan (So., Syracuse, N.Y./Hobart/West Genesee) and Patrick Hansen (Fr., Annapolis, Md./Salisbury School/St. Mary’s) each posted three goals. Doug Ruhnke (So., Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) had four points on two goals and two assists.
Andrew Pace (So., Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Joe Benson (Sr., Baltimore/Johns Hopkins/McDonogh) each had two goals, while Peter Schell (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Ryan Lowe (Fr., Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) each had two assists.
Steve McKinlay (Jr., Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Western Reserve (Ohio), Mat Ballay (Jr., The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), Paul Beery (Fr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), Jon DeCanio (Sr., Clifton, Va./Robinson/Drexel), Josh Funk (Jr., Poolseville, Md./Poolesville) and Ricky Pages (Jr., East Rockaway, N.Y./Lynbrook) each scored a goal. Jason Lutz (Sr., Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) added an assist.
Dalgarno is on a 15-game point streak, with multiple points in each game.
Buchanan had his 13-game goal-scoring streak ended in the win vs. Wagner. The streak dated back to March 4, 2006 vs. Hobart. He has an 18-game point streak that began with two games remaining in the 2005 season (May 1, 2005 vs. Fairfield).
Hansen, Pace and Beery all scored their first career goals.
