%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s hockey team fell, 6-2, to No. 8 Michigan Saturday in front of a season-high 13,308 fans at Value City Arena. Ohio State freshman R.J. Umberger posted a goal and an assist in the loss, while classmate Dave Steckel had an assist to extend his scoring streak to 12 games.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes fall to 11-10-1 overall, 8-7-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Wolverines improve to 16-6-3, 10-4-1 in conference play.%^$

%^$Michigan put the game away with a three-goal second period. With the game tied 1-1, Josh Langfeld broke the tie with a power-play goal, assisted by Andy Hilbert and Mike Cammalleri. The Wolverines extended their lead four minutes later on a Jeff Jillson goal before Geoff Koch put the Wolverines up 4-1 on a goal at the 14:44 mark.%^$

%^$OSU cut the lead to two, 4-2, early in the final stanza on an Umberger goal. He was assisted by Jean-Francois Dufour and Dave Steckel. The assist extended Steckel’s scoring streak to 12 games.%^$

%^$However, Michigan came right back with two unanswered goals for the 6-2 final tally.%^$

%^$OSU also received a first-period goal from Scott May. He was assisted by Reed Whiting and Umberger. The assist was Whiting’s first career point.%^$

%^$Mike Betz made 19 saves on 25 Michigan shots, while the Wolverines’ Josh Blackburn stopped 27-of-29 Ohio State shots he faced in the game.%^$

%^$Ohio State returns to action next Friday, traveling to Notre Dame for the first game of a two-game series.%^$
