%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio— The men’s gymnastics program suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the unbeaten Michigan Wolverines Jan. 20 at Michigan’s Cliff Keen Arena. The Buckeyes were defeated 215.500-210.400, less than 24 hours after defeating Illinois-Chicago by 10 points in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes lone event win against Michigan came on vault. Ohio State recorded no scores lower than 9.10 in the event, with Michael Evans (So., Houston, Texas) pulling in a score of 9.30 to lead the team. Co-captain Earnest Nelson (Jr., Rowlett, Texas) followed close behind with a 9.20 in the event.%^$

%^$Although the squad didn’t win the still rings competition, Buckeyes claimed the top two spots. Daren Lynch (Sr., Londonderry, N.H.) and Raj Bhavsar (So. Houston, Texas) dominated with scores of 9.450 and 9.200 respectively. Bhavsar also took home the all-around title, racking up 52.800 points.%^$

%^$The team’s plan is to slowly improve every category in preperation for the NCAA Championships, March 4-5 in St. John Arena. The squad did show signs of improvement, posting higher overall scores than they did Jan. 19 against the Illinois-Chicago Flames. Six Buckeyes received scores of 9.0 or higher, with the best scores coming on vault and still rings. Horizontal bar and parallel bars also look to be strong events for the team going into the middle portion of the season.%^$

%^$Ohio State defeated Michigan twice last season, handing the Wolverines their only regular season losses of the year. Michigan went on to win the Big Ten Championship and placed second in the NCAA Championship.%^$
