COLUMBUS, Ohio – The National Runner-Up Ohio State men’s gymnastics team ended its season last night with the annual year-end banquet at the Faculty Club on the OSU campus. The night was highlighted by team awards, with Doug Stibel (Sr., Canton, Mich.) receiving the team’s Most Valuable Athlete award as well as the “Stick” Champion award, given to the Buckeye gymnast that consistently sticks the most dismounts throughout the course of the season. The Coaches’ Award went to Jamie Natalie (So, Hockessin, Del.), while Tim Elsner (Sr., Middletown, N.J.) received the Most Improved Gymnast Award. The Top Scholar Awards were given to Ben Falkner (Fr., Norwell, Mass.) and Michael Canales (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.). The night ended with a tearful, heartfelt farewell by the senior class, in which co-captain Canales described the lasting feelings he and his classmates attained while being part of the Ohio State tradition and stressing the importance of the memories gained throughout the journey.
While team competition is completed for the season, the Buckeyes will send representatives to compete throughout the summer. Natalie, a member of the U.S. National Team, will compete at the World University Games in June and Stibel seeks a place on the Pan American Games team, also in June.
