COLUMBUS, Ohio — Othello Hunter wore the No. 13, but his production was anything but unlucky in the opening round of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament Wednesday in Portsmouth, Va. The Ohio State senior forward started for the Sales System squad in a 96-88 loss to Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Hunter connected on 8-of-10 field goals and led both teams in rebounding with 13 boards on his way to a double-double (17 points) in 30 minutes of court time in the opening round of the 56th PIT.
In two seasons at Ohio State Hunter was part of 59 victories. He connected on 59.6 percent of his field goals as a senior, which rates as the eighth-best single-season shooting performance in Ohio State history. He blocked 97 career shots — good for No. 10 on the all-time list — and helped the Buckeyes reach 186 rejections as a team in 2007-08, which is tied for the second-best team effort all-time.
Each year the PIT invites 64 of the best college basketball players (seniors) from across the nation to participate in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every National Basketball Association (NBA) team.
The Buckeyes’ Jamar Butler also was one of the invited seniors at the event. Playing for the Tidewater Sealants, Butler, who wears No. 12 at the event, scored nine points, connected on 3-of-6 3-pointers and added three assists without a turnover in a 99-81 victory in the tournament opener. Butler played 24 minutes in the win.
As a Buckeye, Butler turned in one of the most productive senior seasons and careers in Ohio State history. Below is a list of season and career accomplishments achieved by Butler.
