COLUMBUS, Ohio-Jim O’Brien, Ohio State head men’s basketball coach, announced the signing of Clark Williams, a 6-foot-6-inch, 195-pound forward from Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Ga., to a NCAA National Letter of Intent. Williams will be one of four incoming freshman joining the Buckeyes for the 2001-02 season.

Berkmar (29-4) finished No. 9 nationally in the final USA Today boys basketball poll following its 55-53 win over Savannah in the 2001 5A state champhionship game. It was the second-consecutive state championship for Berkmar.

Williams averaged 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a high school senior. As a junior, he averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in leading Berkmar to the state title with a 30-2 record. He averaged 16.3 points and 6.4 rebounds as a sophomore. He was a First Team All-State selection as both a junior and senior.

O’Brien said Williams adds an outside shooting threat and winning experience to the Buckeyes.

“We are thrilled Clark has chosen to play at Ohio State,” O’Brien said. “He is a talented outside shooter. He is an athletic wing player with potential to become a good player.

“We were especially attracted to his demeanor and personality,” O’Brien said. “He also comes from an extremely successful high school program.”

Williams joins Matt Sylvester (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller), Terence Dials (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) and Brandon Fuss-Cheatham (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) as newcomers to the program. Sylvester, Dials and Fuss-Cheatham signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to play for the Buckeyes in November of 2000.
