Bernard Melus of the Ohio State pistol team team has been named a finalist for the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The award is given each year to the top female and male senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus.

A native of Lake Zurich, Ill., Melus was a captain for the Buckeyes in 2019-20. He was part of the Buckeyes’ 2018 and 2021 open team national championships. He has earned All-America honors in air pistol, free pistol and standard pistol during his Buckeye career. He represented the United States at the 52nd ISSF World Championships in free pistol.
He earned his degree in electrical and computer engineering major, with a minor in German, this spring. Melus has earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete accolades.
