Meet the New Buckeyes – Evan McIntyre


Ten questions with new Buckeye Evan McIntyre, a freshman blueliner.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be, and why?
Banff, Alberta. I love the scenery and could skate on the outdoor rinks.

Favorite pizza toppings?
Pepperoni, mushroom and green pepper

What is your favorite go-to snack?
Chips and hummus.

Are you a coffee person? How do you take it?
Iced or hot – double double

Favorite dipping sauce?

What is your biggest pet peeve?
When people are late.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas, because I can spend time with my family.

Favorite show to binge watch?
The Last Dance

What is your favorite place hockey has taken you? Why?
Germany. It was my first time going to Europe and experiencing a different culture.

How did you get into hockey?
My dad would take me to the outdoor rinks when I was really young.

Prior to Ohio State

  • Played two seasons with Penticton in the BCHL
  • Skated in 58 games in 2019-20 regular season, with 29 points on six goals and 23 assists
  • Started 2018-19 with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the USHL, with a 2-5-7 line in 23 games; ended year with Penticton, posting seven points (3g, 4a) in 18 outings
  • Saw action in 11 BCHL playoff games over the last two years combined, with a goal and two assists; Penticton won the Interior Division both years
  • 2020 Team Canada West selection camp participant
  • Played for St. Andrew’s College in 2016-17 and ’17-18
  • Skated with Mississauga Rebels and Toronto Red Wings organizations
  • Selected for 2016 OHL Gold Cup
  • Part of 2017 St. Sebastian Tournament and 2016 DEL Junior Cup championship teams
  • Graduated from St. Andrews in 2018; earned Academic Merit in 2018 and Academic Scholar accolades from 2016-18, along with hockey Academic Achievement award in 2018; Took part in 142 Highland Cadet Core
  • Also played baseball


  • Son of Jason, a TD Bank distributor, and Liza; Has a younger sister, Brooke
  • Plans to major in sport management or business
  • Enjoys golf and fishing and was high school ping pong champion
  • Played with Buckeye Ryan O’Connell at St. Andrews College
  • Has worked with the Penticton Learn to Skate program and as a golf course greenskeeper and a landscaper
  • On why he chose Ohio State: “The first class facilities, great coaching staff and academics.”
  • Began playing hockey at 6 years old; Started because he had an outdoor rink beside his house he would go on every day as a kid. Father got him into the sport by taking him to Calgary Flames games.
