COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s basketball head coach Thad Matta participated in the first Big Ten Coaches Teleconference of the 2008-09 season Monday morning. Weekly calls with all 11 head coaches begin Monday, Jan. 5 for accredited media members.

Opening Statement
“As a team, I think we need to continue to grow and keep the focus on getting better every day. We had a good week last week and, as the guys head into finals this week, it gives us some time to continue to practice being a week off. We need that right now. We need to look at our team and areas of improvement, individually and collectively to help us on both offense and defense. We know that we are a way’s away, but this is a good group of guys and hopefully we can get better.”

On Evan Turner being named Big Ten Player of the Week
“I am obviously happy for Evan and for our team. I think that, as an individual of an award as that appears, it is a team thing. Evan had a good week last week scoring and rebounding. Fortunately he did get some very big plays for our team.”
