Over the weekend, the No. 5-ranked Buckeyes swept Minnesota State in the Scarlet and Gray’s opening series of the New Year. Junior forward Emma Maltais tallied a team-high seven points. She notched three assists and scored a power-play goal in Friday’s 6-0 win and posted another two assists on Saturday along with a short-handed equalizing goal in the first period. Maltais now has 121 career points which puts her tied for seventh in Ohio State history. She currently leads the Buckeyes with 38 points from a team-high 23 assists. Maltais was also awarded the NCAA Women’s Hockey Second Star of the Week for her performance.
Jincy Dunne, a redshirt senior out of O’Fallon, Mo. was named Defenseman of the Week for her efforts over the weekend. She tied for second in point scoring among the Buckeyes during the Minnesota State series with four points on one goal and three assists. She also led the defense in blocked shots with four. On Friday, she tallied two assists, including the assist on Maltais’ power-play goal. In Saturday’s 8-4 win, Dunne assisted Maltais’ short-handed goal and scored a power-play goal of her own later in the game. Earlier this season, Dunne was named Preseason All-WCHA. This is the first weekly honor for Dunne this season.
Up next, the Buckeyes travel to Minnesota to face off with the Golden Gophers Jan. 17-18. Saturday’s game will be played at the outdoor Parade Stadium as part of Hockey Day in Minnesota.
