COLUMBUS, Ohio-Brian Malich (Sr., Mason, Ohio/El Dorado, Calif.) missed the 100-freestyle final by one-tenth of a second while breaking another Ohio State school record with a time of 50.56 and finishing 20th in the Olympic Trials preliminary race in day four of competition. His time surpassed the previous record of 51.3 that he had set before the Olympic meet. Fellow OSU teammate Travis Carver (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley) also competed in the 100-freestyle, finishing 65th with a time of 52.0.
Former Buckeye Jason Fox (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) also competed in the trials yesterday. He placed 61st in the 200-breastroke with a time of 2:26.54. He will be competing in the 200-individual medley preliminary along with Carver, while Dan Vitina (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) is scheduled to compete in the 200-backstroke preliminary.
