Looking Back at the 2019 Fall Ball Season


The Ohio State softball team concluded its Fall Ball season with a perfect 5-0 record. Here are a few highlights from this fall:

Ohio State 9, Wright State 2

  • RHP Jessica Ross had nine strikeouts in the first outing of the fall, including retiring the side in the second inning on swinging strikeouts.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Buckeyes hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. Niki Carver homered down the left field line, followed by solo dingers from Kaitlyn Coffman and Emily Tinkham.

Ohio State 7, Wright State 3

  • Righty Skylar Hayward went the distance and recorded seven strikeouts.
  • Niki Carver put the Buckeyes on the board in the first inning with a RBI double. Taylor Pack brought her home on a RBI single to second base.
  • A two-RBI double from Kaitlyn Coffman and sacrifice fly by Emily Tinkham kept the scoring going in the third.

19th Annual Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic

  • Twenty-five teams from Ohio and neighboring states participated this year, the most ever.
  • The Charity Classic has raised over $250,000, making it one of the largest fundraisers for Breast Cancer Awareness month in central Ohio.
  • Prior to its first game, Ohio State had Donna Prantl, the mother of former Buckeye and current volunteer assistant coach Cammi Prantl, throw out the honorary first pitch. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and is currently in remission.

Ohio State 4, Toledo 3

  • The Buckeyes scored three of their four runs on homers.
  • Kaitlyn Coffman knocked a home run over center in the fourth.
  • In the fifth, Ashley Prange crushed a two-run shot down the right field line.

Ohio State 5, Akron 4

  • Ohio State erased a 3-0 deficit to win the game.
  • In the fifth, Ashley Prange crushed a three-run homer down the left field line to tie the score.
  • The Buckeyes went ahead in the following inning on a RBI triple by Meg Otte, who also scored on a passed ball.

Alumni Practice

  • The Buckeyes welcomed back 25 alumnae to Buckeye Field.
  • Current and former Buckeyes spent about two hours on the field together.

Ohio State 10, Dayton 1 (6)

  • Ohio State put up a five-spot in the second inning thanks to a pair of two-RBI singles by Claire Nicholson and Ashley Prange with an added RBI single from Kaitlyn Coffman.
  • Andi Farrah roped a two-RBI double in the third.
  • In the fifth, Taylor Pack drove in two runs on a double before Sam Hackenbracht had a double to bring her in.
