David Lighty, a junior on the Ohio State men’s basketball team, has re-fractured a bone in his left foot, Thad Matta, head coach of the Buckeyes, said Wednesday.
Lighty suffered the injury – a break of the fifth metatarsal – during spring workouts Tuesday and will have surgery to repair the fracture Friday at the Ohio State Medical Center by Dr. Grant Jones. This is the same injury the Cleveland, Ohio, native experienced in December of 2008 that forced him to miss the remainder of the season and receive a medical redshirt for 2008-09. Typical recovery from this procedure will take up to 12 weeks.
One of four rising seniors on the Buckeye roster, Lighty averaged 12.6 ppg in his junior season in 2009-10, helping lead Ohio State to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships.
