Lee Paces Buckeyes to Fourth-Place Finish at Clover Cup

MESA, Ariz. – The Ohio State women’s golf team battled difficult scoring conditions to post an 18-over 882 to finish fourth at the Clover Cup Sunday afternoon at Longbow Golf Club. Junior Jaclyn Lee earned her fourth Top 10 finish of the 2017-18 season, placing second at 4-under par, one stroke behind Oklahoma’s Julienne Soo.

Oklahoma won the tournament at 7-over, followed by Arizona State at 9-over, Kentucky at 17-over and the Buckeyes at 18-over.

Lee was steady once again, posting a final-round 1-under 71, to pick up her sixth-consecutive round at or below par. The Calgary, Alberta, native played the Par-4’s at 1-over for the tournament, the second-best of any competitor in the field, and carded 14 birdies, the most on the weekend.

Sophomore Adeena Shears ended the weekend in a tie for 18th, her best-career finish, at 7-over while Alex Wright tied for 37th at 11-over. Junior Niki Schroeder had the Buckeyes’ best score of the weekend, an opening-round 67, and tied for 42nd at 13-over, while senior Rio Watanabe tied for 48th at 15-over. Freshman Alanis Sakuma, competing as an individual, bounced back with a final-round 75 to tie for 74th.

As a team, the Buckeyes finished the tournament at 8-over on the Par-3’s and 34-over on the Par-4’s, both the third-best marks in the 16-team field. Ohio State rolled in the most birdies with 48 and tied for the second-most eagles with two, both by Watanabe.

Individually, Lee and Schroeder tied for the seventh-best in Par-3 scoring at even-par while Lee tied for sixth in Par-5 scoring at 5-under and Wright tied for ninth on the Par-4’s at five-over.
