Lee Advances to Final Round of Stroke Play at NCAA Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – Jaclyn Lee carded a six-under-par 66 to advance to the final round of stroke play as the Ohio State women’s golf team completed the team portion of NCAA Championships Sunday at Karsten Creek Golf Club. The Calgary, Alberta, native sits in a tie for third overall at 6-under, one stroke back of the lead, and will tee off at 1:40 p.m. CT Monday.

As a team, Ohio State finished the NCAA Championships in 23rd place at 62-over as four of the five Buckeye competitors shot their best round of the tournament Sunday.

Teeing off on the 10th hole, Lee birdied four of her first six holes on her way to a bogey-free 66, which tied Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela for low round of the day. Through three rounds, the junior is tied for the second-most birdies in the 132-competitor field with 14 and has been the best of any player in the field in par-4 scoring by three strokes at 5-under. Lee, who is tied with Arizona’s Bianca Pagdanganan, one stroke back of Cheyenne Knight of Alabama and Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest, will be looking to become the first individual champion in program history. Kristen White tallied the Buckeyes’ best individual finish at NCAA Championships, a tie for sixth, in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Golf Channel will televise live coverage from 3-7 p.m. CT Monday.

“My ball-striking was really good again today,” Lee said. “I gave myself a lot of opportunities out there and putted well when I didn’t hit it close. I just need to take tomorrow one stroke at a time and focus on my game to do the best I can.”

Sophomore Alex Wright bounced back from a tough second round to post a 3-over 75 Sunday while senior Rio Watanabeconcluded her Ohio State career with a 10-over 82. Junior Niki Schroeder posted a 7-over 79 while sophomore Adeena Shears saw steady improvement over the three days on her way to a 6-over 78 Sunday.
