COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rising junior Leanne Bough has been selected to attend the women’s 2022 U-21 and Development Selection Camp, USA Field Hockey announced last week. Bough was chosen from the 2021 Young Women’s National Championship held last month in Virginia Beach, Va.
Both Selection Camps will take place in December 2021 or January 2022. Based on their performance at the Selection Camps, these athletes are up for evaluation to be named to the 2022 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Development Team.
Bough is no stranger to the Team USA system. In January of 2020, she was named to the United States U-21 National Team following three days of training at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. Before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the U-21 team was scheduled to participate in the Junior Pan American Championship Nov. 30-Dec. 19, 2020 in Chile.
Following her performance in an abbreviated spring 2021 season, Bough was named second team All-Big Ten and second team All-West Region by the NFHCA. She was a key part of a second-half surge during the season that lifted the Buckeyes to wins in seven of their last nine games and a spot in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Bough scored a goal at Northwestern on March 28 and then had a hand in one of the most memorable moments of Ohio State’s season in the Big Ten Tournament on April 21. Bough assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime in the semifinals against No. 5 Northwestern.
Bough has started all 31 games that she’s played in since her freshman season in 2019. An accounting major, she is an OSU Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten honoree who will be interning this summer with the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute as part of the Bucks Go Pro 1.0 class.
