LB Jerome Baker is Big Ten’s co-Defensive Player of the Week

Sept. 19, 2016

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sophomore linebacker Jerome Baker, in just his second start for Ohio State, has earned this week’s Big Ten co-defensive player of the week award after his terrific game against the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners.

Baker, from Cleveland and Benedictine High School, made the defensive play of the game when he intercepted a tipped Baker Mayfield pass and returned it 68-yards for a touchdown to give the Buckeyes a 14-0 first-quarter lead and momentum that carried the team to its 45-24 road win. Jalyn Holmes tipped the pass and Baker sped untouched down the left sideline for the fourth pick-six of the season for an Ohio State defense that has only allowed two touchdowns all year.

Baker also made seven tackles and had 1.5 quarterback sacks for losses totaling seven yards in the game.
