COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State starting pitcher E.J. Laratta (Fr., Englewood, Colo.) was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, the league office announced. He becomes the first pitcher in the Big Ten to earn Pitcher of the Week honors twice.%^$

%^$ Laratta, a candidate for Big Ten Freshman of the Year, threw a complete game shutout in OSUs 7-0 win over Indiana May 15. He has not allowed an earned run at home in 26 innings dating back to the April 4 game against Northwestern. On the year, Laratta, who also was named Pitcher of the Week May 3, has an 8-2 record with a 3.82 ERA.%^$

%^$ The Buckeyes are riding a wave of momentum into the Big Ten Tournament, which begins Thursday at Bill Davis Stadium They went 25-3 in the Big Ten and won the regular season conference title for the sixth time in the 1990s. The 25 wins ties the Big Ten record for most wins in one season, a mark they share with the 1994 Ohio State team. OSU also completed the season 23-1 at home.%^$

%^$ The team was also guaranteed a spot in the expanded 64-team NCAA field May 17 when the NCAA Baseball Committee picked Bill Davis Stadium as a host for one of the 16 NCAA Regionals to be contested Friday, May 28 through Sunday, May 30.%^$
