Ohio State men’s golf rising-senior Laken Hinton was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar on Wednesday. This is the first time Hinton has earned the award in his Buckeye career.
To be eligible for the honor, Big Ten student-athletes must have a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher during the academic year.
The Edmond, Okla., native played in seven events this past season and averaged 75.72. He had a pair of top-20 finishes and notched a 2-1 record at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in February.
Hinton played his first season and a half at Augusta University before transferring to Ohio State prior to the 2019 spring semester. He made an immediate impact and was a member of the Buckeye five that advanced to the final day of stroke play at the NCAA Championships.
Hinton has also earned Academic All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar-Athlete honors in each of his first two seasons as a Buckeye. He is majoring in Sport Industry.
