COLUMBUS, Ohio –Tanner Laczynski, a senior on the No. 8/7 Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Laczynski had five points in the last two weeks to share the Big Ten lead.
This is Laczynski’s eighth career weekly B1G honor and his second this season (Nov. 26). His eight honors are the most for a Buckeye forward.
Against Colgate Dec. 27-28, Laczynski had a goal and two assists, including the late gamewinning goal in the first game and the primary assist on the GWG in game two. In the Fortress Invitational in Las Vegas last weekend, Laczynski had an assist vs. No. 2 Cornell and then notched his first career shorthanded goal against Army West Point, tying the game in the Buckeyes’ eventual 2-1 overtime win.
Laczynski leads the Buckeyes with 13 assists and 20 points, tying for third in points among Big Ten skaters. He has 129 career points, the second-most among active NCAA skaters, with his 1.06 career points per game average third among all non-freshmen nationally.
Laczynski and the Buckeyes return to Big Ten play with two games at Wisconsin this weekend. Ohio State (13-5-2, 6-3-1-0 B1G) and the Badgers (7-10-1, 2-7-1-1 B1G) will meet at 9 p.m. ET Friday and 8 p.m. ET Saturday. ESPNU will televise game one, with game two on FS Wisconsin Plus and SportsTime Ohio.
