Kruse Earns Pocock First Team All-America Honors

June 14, 2017

Columbus, Ohio Ida Kruse of the Ohio State women’s rowing team was named a Pocock First Team All-American on Tuesday night, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced.

The First Team All-America honor is the first of Kruse’s young career. In 2017, the sophomore helped the First Varsity Eight amass a record of 43-7 overall (10-5 W/L by race) on its way to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

A native of Munster, Germany, Kruse rowed with the 1V8 at all seven regattas during the season. The highlight of the year for the 1V8 was the Big Ten Championships. Entering the final race of the regatta trailing Michigan, Kruse and the 1V8 faced a must-win situation if they hoped to extend Ohio State’s streak of conference titles to five in a row. With its back up against the wall, the 1V8 prevailed with a 2.4 second victory over the Wolverines to claim the conference crown.

In mid-May, Kruse became the sixth Buckeye in program history to earn Big Ten Rowing Athlete of the Year honors joining the likes of Conny Kirsch (2002), Ninett Kossowsky (2006), Claire-Louise Bode (2013), Catherine Shields (2014 & 2016) and Ashley Bauer (2015).
