COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt-junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp has been named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the second honor for Knapp with the other coming on Jan. 6, 2010, during her freshman season.
Knapp, a native of York, N.Y., stopped 39 of 42 shots in Duluth over weekend to help guide the Buckeyes to its first-ever series sweep of the Bulldogs. She posted three shutout periods against Minnesota Duluth and now has a total of eight shutout periods in four games this season. Knapp also kept the Bulldogs scoreless on all four of their power-play opportunities.
Knapp has an impressive goals-against average of 1.25 and a .937 saves percentage in 239:52 of ice time this season. With the two wins against Minnesota Duluth, Knapp and the Buckeyes hold a record of 4-0-0, 2-0-0 in the WCHA.
No. 10 Ohio State plays host to No. 6 North Dakota this weekend, Oct. 12-13, at the OSU Ice Rink. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. Friday night and once again Saturday at 4:07 p.m.
