COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a win over No. 9 Jake Wentzel at 165 pounds Sunday during Ohio State’s 30-7 win over No. 22 Pittsburgh, Carson Kharchla has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week by the league office.
Kharchla, No. 7 nationally in the most recent InterMat rankings, defeated Wentzel in a 4-3 win by decision at the Covelli Center to help the No. 7 Buckeyes to a 4-0 record in dual competition this season.
To date, Kharchla is 13-1 overall with a 4-1 record vs. opponents ranked in the Top 25.
He is the second Buckeye to earn the league’s Wrestler of the Week honor. Senior Malik Heinselman claimed the award earlier this season.
The Buckeyes will not have a dual competition until 2022 when Ohio State travels to American University in Washington, D.C. for a 7:30 p.m. match Jan. 3. Big Ten competition then begins Jan. 8 at Michigan State (5 p.m.). The next home dual is against Michigan Jan. 14 at the Covelli Center (7 p.m.).
