COLUMBUS, Ohio – Claudia Kepler, a sophomore on the Ohio State women’s hockey team, has been named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Tuesday. This marks the first occasion Kepler has received the honor during her collegiate career. Last season, she was recognized twice as WCHA Rookie of the Week.

A native of Verona, Wis., Kepler found the back of the net with 31.1 seconds remaining on the clock to lift the Buckeyes to a 4-3 win, and series sweep, over New Hampshire Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink. Kepler also had a strong night offensively in the series opener Friday, scoring Ohio State’s lone goal en route to a shutout victory. Her two goals vs. UNH marked the first and second game-winners of her Buckeye career.

As a rookie, Kepler amassed 19 points on 13 goals and six assists. Leading the team in goals with 13, she became the first Buckeye freshman to do so since 2009-10. The same goal total ranked second out of WCHA freshmen for the 2013-14 campaign.
