COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State distance runner Kelsey McHugh was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday by the conference office after a career-best performance at the Miami Invitational last weekend.
In her return to Oxford Saturday, the Miami University alumna and current Ohio State graduate student posted a personal best time of 16:46.83 to take first-place out of a field of 46 competitors in the 5000m run. The Columbus product’s time is the ninth-best in the Big Ten so far this season and among the Top 40 performances in the NCAA East region to date.
The weekly award is the first of McHugh’s OSU career and third-consecutive for the Buckeyes this outdoor season. Senior All-American Letecia Wright claimed the previous two recognitions.
The Buckeyes will travel to Purdue for the Dave Rankin Invitational April 15-16. Additionally, several distance runners will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 14-15.
