COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s lacrosse freshman midfielder John Kelly has been recognized by the ECAC for his play in the Buckeyes’ game at No. 14 Fairfield Saturday. The game closed the regular season for the Buckeyes, who shared the ECAC regular season title.

Kelly, from Towson, Md. (Calvert Hall), scored the second goal of his Buckeye career at Fairfield Saturday, cutting the Stags’ lead to one (5-4) late in the third quarter. Kelly has played in 12 games this season and has two goals, three assists and five points.

This season, Ohio State captured 12 ECAC Player of the Week honors. Jake Withers was a four-time rookie of the week (Feb. 24-co, March 31, April 14-co, April 21) and the league’s specialist of the week March 24. Scott Spencer was a two-time defensive player of the week (April 14, April 21) while Turner Evans (Feb. 17-co) and Ryan Hunter (April 21) both earned offensive player honors. Nick Doyle (March 24) and J.T. Blubaugh (April 7-co) joined Withers and Kelly as rookie of the week selections.

This week, the Buckeyes play host to the ECAC Tournament in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. No. 2 seed Ohio State will meet No. 3 seed Air Force at 8 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals, preceded by a semifinal matchup between No. 1 seed Fairfield and No. 4 seed Michigan. The championship is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday.
