COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s gymnastics freshman Kazuki Hayashi was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. This is Hayashi’s first career conference honor and the second straight Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes competed in their first away meet last weekend and fell to defending Big Ten Champions, Penn State 405.900-405.000. Hayashi competed in four events including floor, high bar, parallel bars, and vault. The Fairfax, Va. native claimed second place on floor with a score of 13.900 while finishing fourth on high bars (13.350) and fifth on parallel bars (13.650) to secure three Top 5 finishes.
Ohio State is set to host Michigan Saturday, Feb. 1 at Covelli Center. The meet against the conference rival is slated to begin at noon.
