COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior diver Katie Bell has advanced through the semifinal round in the 10-meter platform event at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Iowa City, Iowa. The Columbus native and Graham High School graduate will compete in the finals Saturday at Iowa’s new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center for a U.S. national championship and a chance at representing the United States at the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in May and the FINA World Championships in July.

Bell totaled 652.30 points to trail only Jessica Parratto (680.70 points) and Brittany Viola (670.15 points). Anna James is in fourth place, less than a point behind Bell. The four divers with the highest cumulative scores from the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals who also meet the degree of difficulty requirements will be named to the AT&T Grand Prix team.

Bell, despite injuring a shoulder, was third at the event in 2010, held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, and just missed a spot on the U.S. World Cup team that competed in Changzhou, China. She won a U.S. Diving national championship on the 10-meter board in August 2009 in Tallahassee, Fla.

The U.S. Winter Nationals continue Friday with quarterfinal action in the men’s 10-meter platform and women’s 3-meter quarterfinals and semifinals.
