COLUMBUS, Ohio – Karen Dennis, Ohio State director of track & field and cross country, has been named the Americas Team head coach for the upcoming IAAF Continental Cup Ostrava 2018 to be held on Sept. 8-9 in Ostrava, Czech Republic. This is the third IAAF Continental Cup, with Europe winning in Marrakech, Morocco in 2014, and the Americas taking home the inaugural Cup in Split, Croatia in 2012.
Dennis has been with the Ohio State program for 16 seasons. She spent eight seasons (2006-14) as the women’s track and field/cross country head coach at Ohio State and was an assistant track coach for four seasons (2003-2006) prior to her appointment as program director in 2015. Since she was named the head coach, Dennis has won seven Coach of the Year awards, and led Ohio State to 48 Big Ten event titles, 23 First Team All-America awards and four Big Ten team titles.
The IAAF Continental Cup team features world class athletes from the NACAC Championships and Central American & Caribbean Games including: world pole vault champion Sam Kendricks, Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser, Olympic triple jump champions Christian Taylor and Caterine Ibarguen, Olympic long jump champion Jeff Henderson and 100m hurdles world record holder Kendra Harrison.
