COLUMBUS, Ohio – Shawn Kaplan, a freshman from Lafayette, Hill, Pa., has been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Kaplan won 9-of-11 faceoffs in the Buckeyes’ 6-5 triple overtime win at Penn State Saturday.
Kaplan, a product of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, did not lose a faceoff in the second half or overtime, winning all three draws in both the third and fourth quarters and the opening faceoff in each overtime period. He won the faceoff and picked up the groundball in the third overtime, giving Ohio State control of the ball on the game’s last possession. He also had a team game high and personal-best six groundballs in the game.
Kaplan has won 22-of-40 faceoffs on the year and is second on the team with 11 groundballs.
Kaplan and the No. 13/16 Buckeyes (4-1) are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday night when they host Lehigh (3-1) in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
