COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State goalie Josh Kirson has been named the Big Ten’s Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Kirson, a Newton, Mass. native, registered 25 saves in two Ohio State wins last week. On Tuesday, he had seven stops and allowed just five goals in 36 minutes of action in a 23-9 win over Detroit Mercy at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Just four days later, Kirson made a career-high 18 saves – the most by an Ohio State goalie in 13 years – as the Buckeyes defeated Boston University 11-4.
Through two games, Kirson’s .735 save percentage ranks first in the Big Ten and fourth nationally. His 5.71 goals against average also leads the conference and is eighth-best nationally. A veteran of 22 career games and 20 starts, Kirson has 206 saves, a .516 save percentage and 9.54 goals-against average.
The Buckeyes, ranked No. 10 this week in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and No. 12 in the USILA Coaches Poll, return home and make their Ohio Stadium debut on Saturday at 1 p.m. versus Massachusetts, which is receiving votes in both polls.
