COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s JJ Tracy had a great freshman season and was named the ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year. The award is voted on by the head coaches in the region.
Tracy was 26-3 in singles matches this year. He lost his first two collegiate matches back in early January and then won his next 24 consecutive matches over the next four months. That impressive streak earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors as well as a spot on the All-Big Ten second team.
The Hilton Head, S.C. native also worked his way into the doubles lineup as the year went along and he finished with a 14-4 mark. His 40 combined wins on the season were third-most on the team.
Tracy is the ninth Buckeye to be named ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year and the sixth in the last seven seasons. He joins Joey Atlas (2004), Justin Kronauge (2007), Blaz Rola (2011), Mikael Torpegaard (2015), Martin Joyce (2016), JJ Wolf (2017), John McNally (2018) and Cannon Kingsley (2020).
The 12 regional Rookies of the Year will now be voted on by a national committee and the national award winners will be announced next Monday, June 21st.
