Columbus, Ohio— Jincy Dunne has been named the WCHA’s Rookie of the Month for the month of January.
In eight games last month, Dunne tallied two goals and two assists, leading all rookie defensemen in the WCHA in points. On the defensive end, she blocked 17 shots in January which also led all conference rookies. Among her national counterparts, that total was tied for third in the NCAA. The O’Fallon, Missouri native was also on the ice for nine Ohio State goals last month, which again led WCHA freshmen.
Dunne opened the month with a fantastic weekend at Penn State. The Buckeyes trounced the Nittany Lions by a combined score of 11-0 in those two games, and she scored two goals and added an assist to the cause. She was +6 on the ice and blocked three shots in the first game of the series. She was named WCHA Rookie of the Week for her efforts on the ice.
In her first season of college hockey, Dunne has been fantastic. She’s second on the team with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and her 62 blocked shots are tied for 7th in the NCAA and most among all freshmen.
Dunne and the rest of the Buckeyes look to take on St. Cloud State this weekend in Columbus.
