Columbus, Ohio – Jessica Davenport, a consensus All-American and Big Ten player of the year in 2005, was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 Friday in an announcement made by the National Advisory Board. Davenport, who is in Turkey playing for Team USA in the 2005 World University Games until Aug. 19, was a finalist for the Wooden Award last season.

Davenport (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/ Independence) is one of three players who were finalists for the Wooden Award last season to be named one of 30 candidates for the 2005-06 honor. Seimone Augustus of LSU, the 2004-05 winner, joins Davenport in that category, as a does Monique Currie of Duke.

The preseason list is based on last year’s individual performance and team records. The top 30 candidates are comprised of returning players, although transfers, freshmen and other players will be evaluated and considered for both the Midseason top 20 list and the National Ballot.

In mid-January, the Wooden Award Committee will release the Midseason Top 20 List, followed in March by the official voting ballot, consisting of approximately 15 top players. The 2006 Award ceremony will be held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club on April 8, 2006, and will be broadcast live on a nationally on CBS.

The top five male and female finalists will be invited to Los Angeles for the Awards ceremony and will receive a contribution from the John R. Wooden Award Scholarship Fund in their name to their university’s general scholarship fund.
