COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State attackman Jeff Tundo has picked up back-to-back ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week honors after a career-high five assists and points vs. Hobart last week. Tundo is a three-time honoree this season, first winning the award March 15.
Ohio State now has received seven conference player of the week accolades this season, including a Rookie of the Week honor in five of the first eight weeks of the year. Freshman Logan Schuss also is a three-time honoree with two rookie of the week honors (March 1, co-March 8) and an offensive player nod March 29. Senior Brandon Freeman has been the league’s defensive player of the week (March 29), while classmate Mario Ventiquattro picked up co-offensive honors March 8.
A native of Orchard Park, NY., Tundo had a team season-high and career-best five assists against Hobart, setting a career high in points. He had three assists in the first half, including helpers on goals with seven seconds left in the first quarter and three seconds left in the second. He had two assists in the second half, including one on a Mario Ventiquattro man-up goal in the fourth. Tundo had three shots and a groundball in the contest vs. the Statesmen.
Tundo’s five-assist game ties for the sixth-best single-game performance for the Buckeyes in program history, last set by Kevin Buchanan April 6, 2008 vs. Air Force.
The game vs. Hobart was Tundo’s first multiple-assist game of the season and marked a career high in points after two four-point outings. He is second on the team with 18 goals, seven assists and 27 points.
Senior James Green, who had a hat trick vs. Hobart and has at least one goal in each game this year, was named to the league’s honor roll this week.
Tundo and the Buckeyes return to Columbus for three-consecutive home games, beginning with a game against Denver at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The squad will host Air Force at 11 a.m. April 24 in the Showdown in the Shoe in Ohio Stadium and Bellarmine at 1 p.m. May 1.
