COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophie Jaques earned her second conference honor of the week with the WCHA’s announcement of its monthly award winners on Tuesday. Jaques, who was named the league’s Defender of the Week on Monday, has earned the first WCHA Defender of the Month award of the season and her first of her career.
In helping Ohio State to an 8-2-0 record to start the 2021-22 campaign, the senior has recorded 13 points on six goals and seven assists. She leads the Buckeyes with 50 shots on the season, four power play goals and a plus-13 on ice.
The native of Toronto, Ontario reached career highs in scoring twice in the opening month of the season, recording a personal-best three points and two goals in games against Minnesota and St. Cloud State. Versus the Gophers, she became the first Ohio State player since 2017 to score two power play goals in a game.
Jaques leads defenseman nationally in points (13) and points per game (1.300). Her four power play goals rank second in the country.
No. 2 Ohio State heads to St. Paul, Minn. to take on the St. Thomas Tommies this weekend, Nov. 5-6. The teams meet for the second time this year after facing off in the opening week of the season.
