COLUMBUS, Ohio – Izzy Rodriguez, a rising sophomore on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been selected to the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup starting Aug. 5 in France.
The U.S. opens the competition against Japan Aug. 6 before taking on Paraguay Aug. 9 with both contests taking place in Concarneau. Group play will conclude against Spain Aug. 13 in Dinan-Lehon. All of the U.S. matches will be broadcast on FS2.
A native of Canton, Mich., Rodriguez is one of 16 collegiate players to make the roster. Rodriguez also was one of 15 players to help head coach Jitka Klimkova’s squad earn a berth in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in January.
In her first season in Columbus, Rodriguez started all 21 matches at left back, ranking fourth on the team with five assists in 2017. The third team All-Big Ten honoree and member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team assisted on a pair of goals in the win against Illinois while assisting on Nikki Walts’ game-winner against Michigan State.
