Chatham, Ontario, native has six-point weekend in split with No. 2/3 Minnesota Duluth

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Last weekend, Hokey Langan of the Ohio State women’s hockey team set the Buckeye record for freshman scoring and for her accomplishment was named WCHA Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Wednesday. It is the seventh weekly award for a Buckeye overall this year.

Langan continued to rewrite the Ohio State record books with six points in a split at No. 2/3 Minnesota Duluth, Feb. 12-13 at the DECC. The forward from Chatham, Ontario, has 46 points to surpass the mark of 44 set by Jeni Creary in 2001-02.

In the Friday game, Langan had a power play goal at 15:43 of the opening period to give the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. She also assisted on a goal at 17:32 of the second to pull Ohio State even at 3-all, although UMD eventually won in overtime 5-4.

The next night, Langan helped the Buckeyes build a lead by assisting on the first and third OSU goals of the game to go up 3-1. Then, as time was running out in regulation, she assisted on the fifth Buckeye goal at 17:49 before sealing Ohio State’s victory with an empty-net goal with 49 seconds left. The Buckeye win ended Minnesota Duluth’s NCAA-leading unbeaten streak at 12 games and was the first over the Bulldogs since 2006.

Langan leads the WCHA overall in points (46) as well as conference-only games (41). She is second overall in goals (21) and has a 12-point lead over any other freshman in the league. Her 46 points tie for fourth-most in the NCAA and she leads all rookies in the nation with 1.44 points per game.

Ohio State (15-13-4, 12-12-2-0 WCHA) wraps up the regular season this weekend with a home series against St. Cloud State (13-12-7, 10-11-5-4 WCHA), Feb. 19-20. Critical conference points are on the line with the sixth-place Buckeyes just three points back from the Huskies, in a tie for third. The top 4 teams in the league standings get home ice for the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.

Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink and admission, as always, is free.
