COLUMBUS, Ohio – A win in the 3000-meter steeplechase by junior Nicole Hilton highlighted day one for the Ohio State women’s track and field team at the 29th Jesse Owens Track Classic being held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The McDonald, Pa., native cruised to a winning time of 10:37.78. Runner-up honors went to unattached competitor Bethany Neeley in a time of 10:48.24.

A few notable performances for the Buckeyes in the 1500-meter run Friday included a sixth-place finish by junior Katie Borchers (4:28.06) and a 12th-place finish by sophomore Tammy Berger (4:31.20). A pair of freshman ran personal-best times in Rachel Weber (4:32.59) and Kaitlyn Willette (4:32.66), finishing 16th and 17th, respectively.

In the 5000-meter showcase event, Buckeye sophomore Sakiko Minagawa ran a personal-best time of 16:48.71 to finish ninth, while senior Michelle Thomas finished 10th with a time of 16:51.76.

In section one of the 5000-meter run, senior Mallory Kreider (17:49.31) and junior Keelin Gorman (17:58.95) went 10-11, respectively.

Competition resumes Saturday starting with the shot put at 10:30 a.m.
