Hession Signs First Recruit For 2007-08 Season
Avern-Taplin set to join Buckeyes next season
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State University women’s golf team added another student-athlete to the roster Tuesday. Tiffany Avern-Taplin officially signed an NCAA letter of intent with the Buckeyes and will join the squad for the 2007-08 season. Avern-Taplin is one of the Top-2 junior golfers in South Africa and one of the top overall golfers in her country.
Avern-Taplin is expected to contribute significantly to the 2007-08 Buckeye squad, coming off a successful year at Crawford College Northcoast. During her final season she notched seven first-place finishes and six second-place finishes. Avern-Taplin also was honored with selections to the 2006 KwaZulu Natal Ladies Team, South African Under 21 Team and South African Ladies Squad. Before bringing her game to the United States and The Ohio State University, Avern-Taplin will add to her resume by playing in amateur tournaments in South Africa throughout the spring.
Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach, said that Avern-Taplin will be a great addition to the Buckeyes in the coming year.
“We are thrilled that Tiffany will bring her game to the US and particularly to Ohio State University. She is an accomplished junior player and has high goals for her future. Tiffany had an outstanding year winning the South African Girls Junior Championship and finishing second in the South African Amateur Championship amongst many other fine events. I am excited about the opportunity to work with her and to help make her dreams come true.”
Avern-Taplin is the first recruit to sign with The Ohio State University women’s golf team for the 2007-08 season.
